More than 600 people participated in CVWMA's most recent electronics collections, contributing 60,000 pounds of equipment. Six events were held in April, and one in May. The busiest event was April 21st at Chesterfield Towne Center where 267 people recycled 26,000 pounds of electronics. One person from each of CVWMA's six April 2007 electronics recycling collections was randomly selected to receive a $100 Ukrop's gift card. Ukrop's Super Markets donated the gift cards to encourage participation in the events, of which four were held at Ukrop's locations.

| Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs |
Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) are becoming a popular choice of consumers today because of their energy efficiency and affordability. Switching from traditional light bulbs to CFLs costs very little up front and can quickly provide savings on a home’s electric bill. The problem comes when disposing of these types of light bulbs. CFLs contain small amounts of mercury, and for this reason, they should be properly recycled rather than tossed into the garbage. For information about CFLs and how to recycle them, visit our website. |
